Byg Brewski

Thats how the pub looks every evening
They do have an amazing way of stacking bottles as well

Byg Brewski Brewing Co

Magnum opus
Rumors has it that this might even be the largest brew pub of Asia however it’s for sure that this pub which spreads over 65000 sq feets and is set to host over 3000 people at any time, is surely the largest one in India. With 3 man made water bodies inside the premises along side an amphitheater and a nightclub this place is Humongous. The architecture is jaw dropping, every stone seems to be creating a medieval ambiance.

Menu –
Yes, the most important part of any pub or bar.. Carte du Jour.. The point when you think of asking the person serving food “what do you have in store for me?”Well, lucky for you, me and everyone else, this place has decided to go “byg” on everything. They serve Pitchers of Cocktails… (never seen that anywhere else) and unlike most pubs they don’t have the habit of saying “we are running out of stock” for any brand of liquor whatsoever. What’s more awesome is their list of brewed beers…

Every brewery has a separate page dedicated to the 4-7 types of beers they brew.. But “byg brewski” decided to live upto its name here as well. The list is never ending and one of the following two scenarios are likely to happen when you get to see their Beer menu…

1. If you are not a beer person and still want to order a beer (either to impress someone or to justify your visit to a brewery) – the menu can, very well, leave you in a state of utter confusion unless you gather your guts and walk up to the counter and say smartly.. “A mug of your strongest brew please…” which just might save the day for you.

2. If you are a beer lover.. It’s like seeing a treasure.. Baffled and bedazzled, not sure which one to try and would like to try everything..

Image result for jaw dropping from the mask

Have you seen a kid in front of a toy store… (Somehow restrained myself from using the example of a dog in front of a dinosaur skeleton) and then you end up walking up to the counter and saying smartly.. “A mug of your strongest brew please…” which just might save the day for you anyway.
The food is just lovely.. Right from the Non Veg Kabab Platter to the dessert called Loki’s Delight. Do try the Kolkata Chicken Cutlet with kasundi… You will me mesmerized.

Ambience –
The dj is well versed with all kinds of music, Hollywood, Bollywood or EDM. If you are a regular here you will often see those famous dj names performing live. Outside the dance floor it just seems to be a different world altogether. Medieval torches and the amphitheater, seating arrangements beside the water bodies, the cold breeze with a soothing music just makes the place stunning taking you back a few centuries. People say that Norwegian mythology inspired this brewery into existence. Nordic symbols all around, wooden shields, metal ramps, outdoor seating arrangements – gives you a royal feel of the Scandinavian kingdoms [have you seen Game of Thrones or the Vikings, yet?] They do have five different experience zones and the Barbyric, the Colosseum and the Syn are noteworthy to pay a visit. The friendly staff and the luscious food keeps the throng lively and you wish to come back over and over again.

Escapade
Short and indelible. Happened to be the night when rj Tuhin from Red FM was hosting the night alongside a popular dj. It was a Bollywood night and I simply loved the way the evening unfolded. I was there with a couple of my friends and we wanted to try all the types of Beer they had, however we stuck to the very first type as it turned out inexorable. Phenomenal handcrafted beers at its best, the list went up to 16 different kinds but we stuck with the Belgian Wheat Beer with their famous Non-Veg Kabab Platter and decided to go back to try something else the next time and that’s why I made it a point to say the bartender before leaving, the most famous dialogue,
“I’LL BE BACK!”

The Story Behind

A long time ago, there lived a King and a Queen in a far far away magical kingdom…

And their royal Druid who brewed magical beers in a cauldron made of pure gold….

OK, you got me, am just kidding…

However I do accept that it is indeed a magical feeling when we beer lovers get our hands on a chilled one.

Being a Beer lover I have always spent a lot of time looking for a good Pub or Brewery and realized quite late that a lot of my fellow Beer lovers do just the same to get a freshly brewed mug or a pint of their favorite brand served chilled.

Ale, Stout, Malt or Lager, Beer seems to be an acquired taste.

Dark, Pilsner, Wheat, Strong or Pale, Beer lovers have only one thing in common, they simply love a CHILLED ONE.

I wish my fellow beer lovers reading this blog to find their dig just right.

Beer-out of Lockdown – the Covid19 Story III

Covid19 dealt a heavy blow to mankind. People were out of jobs, businesses were shut, millions dead. But we are like cockroaches, we can survive through anything [well almost anything].

Nation wide lockdown was slowly being lifted and I was ready for some more Beer, something new, something handcrafted to perfection. As the pubs and restaurants started getting back into business, I actively started looking out for something new.

And as they say, when you love something, you definitely get to it.

So typically in a very Bollywood style – “Kehte hain agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaho … to puri kainaat usse tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai” Well I got a couple more and am here today to share the same with you all.

The first in my list was Hoegaarden. This trickster of a beer is known as a Belgian Wit Beer but has a mystery added to it.

A/V – 4.9%

Hoegaarden is a witbier spiced with coriander and orange peel. It is unfiltered and therefore has a cloudy appearance. Although this beer has too much in it to be called a craft beer but it is definitely not a Macro Lager. This beer is also a bottle conditioned beer, where yeast is added a second time to the brewed product in bottle to get the carbonation. This pre-crafted craft beer comes from a 6th century recipe used by monks. With an A/V of 4.9% this beer is not as smooth as it seems and I would happily rate it a 4 on a scale of 5.

The next in my list was another Belgian Wit Bier… Hopper Wit

A/V – 4.9%

Unlike most beers in India this beer has a strange light sweetness to it. It has an extremely smooth and creamy mouth-feel with subtle citrus and well balanced bitterness. This recipe also comes from Belgian monks and has been inspired by the gothic culture, which can be clearly seen when you gaze at its logo or even the shape of the bottle. This wit beer is an ideal summer drink and I would rate it a 4 out of 5 too.

Loads more to come…. Bottled Crafts are reigning in India 🇮🇳 now and the possibilities are gonna be endless and options innumerable …

I will be back with more soon. As I always say… The Adventuress has just begun..

Quarintine with Beers – the Covid19 story II

Hola Amigos… Back with couple of more beer stories..

Quaritine days were not yet over. Loads of places and businesses faced lockdowns and strict rules. But the relief amidst this pandemic was the fact that liquor sales were not stopped.  And I found a couple more new options to share with you all.

The first choice was White Owl. Yes you read it right. White owl breweries has four variants available in the market. And I was lucky enough to get my hands on all of them. Diablo, Ace, Spark and Spike.

White Owl

Ace however is technically not a beer but a Cider… Handcrafted with fresh apples and champagne yeast.

Spark is their Belgian Wit, with a punch of lemony orange zest is best for hot summer days. Ideal to sip away sitting on a beach. With an A/V of 5% it’s a lovely wit indeed.

Diablo gives hints of caramel, coffee and a slight bitter after taste. It’s their dark beer. With an A/V of 5% this Irish Red Ale is gonna steal the heart of dark beer lovers.

Spike with an A/V of 7.9% is definitely the strongest handcrafted bottled beer I have tasted yet. It’s a traditional German Weizenbock, that’s quite similar to a Hefeweizen. Low on IBU and a definite smooth brew, Spike was my favorite.

I would rate White Owl a good 4 out of 5 on an average. Spike alone makes it to 4.5. Am gonna stock up some White owl for sure.

The stakes were high after my experience with white owl and I was not sure if any other can match up to it. With a neutral mind I decided to go for the next.

The next in line was a bottled craft by Carlsberg. The Witlinger.

Witlinger

Witlinger is a smooth wit beer with an A/V of 5%. A creamy smooth pale ale, with a punch of orange zest, this beer is low on bitterness and a good option for wit lovers for sure. Overall I would rate it a 3.5 and would love to sip on a chilled pint on a summer noon.

This brings me to the end of this part. The journey has just started. More and more bottled handcrafts to go for and I can feel my taste buds ready for more..

Will return with more Beer Adventuress soon. Until then Ciao!

P. S – Don’t forget to like and share with other beer lovers… Cheers….

Quarintine with Beers – the Covid19 story

Felt like living those zombie and virus outbreak movies we have been enjoying all along. A virus so strong that exterminated millions of souls from the face of the earth. We all know what it did to us.

Well am not here to discuss about Covid. But it did affect me too. Social distancing came a lot after, what shook us was the fact that almost everything was closed and the sale of alcoholic beverages were banned for a while. With nothing to try i had nothing to write.

A couple months went by and then like the most awaited sunshine after a gloomy day came the news of alcoholic beverages were being sold. Ignoring the huge queues outside the shops, I decided to buy some good old beer for me.

Pubs and breweries were still closed and so I chose to try a few bottled handcrafts from the stores.

The first in my list was definitely the one everyone was talking about. A new addition to the kingfisher family.

Ultra Witbier

Kingfisher Ultra Witbier
Belgian white…

With an A/V of about 4.5 it tastes more like belgian wit ale… With rich blend and beautiful aroma this beer tastes like craft beer but, not really… Kingfisher brews this with orange, coriander, spices sourced from Belgium and hops sourced from the US.  However it’s a great addition to the kingfisher family.
A lager with a bit of flavor… That’s rare.. On a scale of 5, I would rate it a 3.

The next on my list was Simba. I tried a couple of varieties.

Simba – Light, Wit and Stout

With an A/V of 5%, both Light, Wit and Stout were good choices in the absence of fresh brewed pitchers.

Simba Stout has a rich creamy cocoa espresso flavour packing quite a punch. A good one for Stout lovers for sure.

Simba Wit is definitely a refreshing summer drink that is crisp with a hint of orange peel, coriander and lemon grass.

Simba light also like the other two has an A/V of 5%. This light pale bottled beer has beautiful floral aroma. A lovely pale ale for lager lovers…

On a scale of 5, I would rate the Simba collection a 3 again.

My journey has just begun into the world of bottled handcrafts available in India. Will return soon with a few more..

the Druid Garden

Back to back roof top adventures. A serene microbrewery with a gaze of the city from the roof top, this place is worth visiting by all means.  I have thought of visiting this place many times but that never materialised. However this weekend I ended up at Druid Garden out of the blue.
Now Druid Garden is a place for craft beer lovers and the options are also pretty good. If you know your beers then this is the best place to be at.

The options:
HEFEWEIZEN
DUNKELWEIZEN
CZECH PILSNER LAGER
RAUCHBIER
IRISH STOUT
INDIAN PALE ALE

This time I wanted to have a word with the brew-master before ordering anything. I had a little doubt as to if the brew-master would be free to meet me, but he was more than happy to respond. Sadly he couldn’t spend enough time as he had prior commitments but he suggested me to try the Irish Stout or the Indian Pale Ale. Wanted to know more about his expertise and his journey to India into being the brew-master of Druid Garden, the beers he brew regularly, but time ran out. @Maty_Czechbrewmaster has however promised to spend some more time and answer to the queries I might have, the next time I visit.

Irish Stout:

ABV – 5.5%; IBU – 35

This traditional styled beer is known for its smooth and creamy texture. The roasted malt flavors often gives a taste of coffee and packs quite a punch. This beer is dark and strong and a heavy lander on bitterness.
The stout that I had here was brewed to perfection by the brew master @Maty_Czechbrewmaster. The coffee flavored hops and barley, the creamy texture and consistency of the smoothness was noteworthy. One of the best brews available here at Druid Garden.

Indian Pale Ale:

ABV – 5%; IBU – 20

IPA needs no introduction, courtesy to its worldwide fans. This hoppy style beer is famous for being strong and bitter and exploring the fruity flavors.
The IPA I had here was lovely. The tropical citrus fruit aromas and the bitterness are apt for any IPA lover. Smooth and pale as it is, it packs quite a punch with a nice ABV. A perfect companion for summer evenings, this beer is certainly one of best at Druid Garden.

The options still had a couple more beers that I wanted to try out but I wanted to keep them for the next visit. You need excuses to come back when you have a micro-brewery close to your home. And also, the discussion with @Maty_Czechbrewmaster is pending.

So Druid Garden, I will be back for some more beer very soon.

Knowhere

Rooftop again. I don’t know why rooftop pubs attract me so much. Located in Banaswadi, this rooftop pub is a bit difficult to reach. Once you spot the building you literally have to find your way up to the roof without any signs showing the way. But once you are there you are definitely gonna stay. People seldom wishes to leave this joint not just because of the cold breeze but also cause this pub serves lovely food and cocktails. The aroma of barbecue multiplies your craving for some deliciousness by a hundred times.

Karaoke is the main attraction here with live streaming of games being another. Be it a game night or you just wanna go crazy with your friends, this place is perfect. The pros are way too many to count..
Rooftop, Barbecue, Karaoke, Live games, Cocktails and Beer.
What else would you even want… Ingredients for a perfect evening.
Well like every other thing, pros are coupled with cons here as well. Sometimes the rush is way too much and a delayed attention is but quite normal.

I have been to this place quite a number of times and it lives up to the expectations every single time. Although it’s not a micro brewery, it’s beer collection is worth mentioning. The internet says they do offer Infused Beers as well [chilli, orange and cucumber] but I have never found it here. Infused beers are craft beers or lagers infused with seasonal fruits or with exotic flavors and is a trend these days. Am really looking forward to try one of these here soon.
They do have a lovely list of beers both Indian and International. So don’t be surprised if you find someone sipping on Desperados or Leffe right next to you.

King Fisher Ultra

I usually order Kingfisher Ultra or Bira during my visits here. Sipping on my chilled beer with their famous ‘Mini Dosas’ or a lovely barbecue while watching cricket on their giant screen always makes my day. Their karaoke is good and jams up every evening session.

Good food and nicely served drinks are best part of this pub. Am not a cocktail lover but my friends say they are lovely in that as well. They have been serving me chilled Bira bottles and KF ultra in frosty glasses every time.

Knowhere knows I will be back soon.

Watson’s

Have been hearing about this pub for quite some time now so we decided to pay a visit. Located in North Bangaore, Sahakar Nagar, this is quite a fashionable place and quite famous among youngsters and college students. However it didn’t take long to form an entirely different set of opinions. It’s really a chic place with nice music and offers quite a number of lagers. Huge screens to stream cricket and soccer attracts a lot of young people for a quality get together.

We ordered beer on tap and the only options available were Budweiser, Kingfisher Ultra and Kingfisher. We went for a Kingfisher Ultra tower, got served in chilled glasses and everything seemed perfect. We were sitting at the bar counter and noticed a lot of young groups chilling, people who came alone were enjoying novels over a drink, seemed like a perfect gate-away.

First sip down, the froth level went below the brim of the glass and all the amazing feelings went ‘poof’ with two observations.

Stained Glass – I thought only my glass was stained and asked the bar man to change it, he changed it promptly only to bring me another stained glass. I looked around and it took me a while in the low light to figure out that almost everyone had a stained glass which clearly suggests they have amazing hygiene and cleaning protocols.

Stains
Stains

Un-Beer-able Beer – As said we ordered Kingfisher Ultra on tap which seemed more like water than beer. The beer was diluted to such an extent that no beer lover can call it Beer even if they are at the seventh level of being high. I know in this country a lot of pubs do prefer diluting beers to accommodate huge gatherings on special occasions, but this was a regular weekday evening not even a weekend. Such chicanery really sets you off.

I won’t go into the food as that was a whole different ball game.

Watsons did disappoint and one thing is for sure.. I won’t be back.

Types of Beer – A Guide

It’s time for People’s Choice. Young beer lovers often have this dilemma about choosing the right beer.. I have seen people get confused about types of beer, more accurately I have seen myself getting confused about the types of beer available and believe me when I say this, I still get confused sometimes before ordering a mug. But lemme make an effort and summarize the various kinds of beer available for my readers.
Disclaimer: This is about my understanding of the types available and most certainly I won’t be 100% correct.

Its a limitless world when it comes to Beer. Classic lagers, bold IPAs or the sour ales, each type of beer is the progeny for uncountable sub-categories.
Barley [or any other starch source], Hops [the flavor part], Water and Yeast are the fundamental elements behind brewing Beers. The kind of Yeast used for fermentation basically categorizes Beer.
The main classification of Beer is Lager and Ale.
Ales – Yeast is fermented at warm temperatures and settles on the top of the beer. This process is called Top Fermentation. The yeasts used for Ales usually have higher alcohol tolerance levels.
Lager – Yeast for lagers are fermented for a much longer time and under cooler temperatures. Unlike Ales, the yeast for lagers settles at the bottom of beers.

The Strength of alcohol in liquors is identified by A/V or ABV which is Alcohol by Volume.
IBU is also an important term for beer lovers which stands for International Bittering Unit, precisely to determine how bitter the beer is.

Lager Beers are of various styles and are the foundation stones for most people who love Beer. Mild Lagers are generally the ones with 4-5% ABV and the strong ones with 6-8% ABV, light and clear, slightly malty. Lagers are not really much about their flavor. Corona, Kingfisher, Budweiser, Tuborg, Fosters, Carlsberg are the most common lagers in India and abroad. Best served in frosty glasses.

Ales on the other hand is the biggest group of craft beers. Pale ales, Pilsners, Indian Pale Ales (IPA), Stouts, Porters, Belgian, Wheat Beer are all categories of beer that fall under Ales. These are the ones for which people visit micro breweries and these are best served in non frosted glasses as their volatile aroma gets easily destroyed in frosted glasses.
Pale Ales – Light colored and hoppy this beer category is usually under 7.5% ABV and much less bitter than the most.
Pilsner – Usual categories are Czech or German and crisp in flavor with medium bitterness and golden in appearance, this beer is considered a Lager among the crafted beers.
IPA – A huge category by itself, IPAs have characteristic fruity or citrus flavor, with medium to high bitterness and ABV can be well up to 10%
Stouts – This dark beer can be of English or American origin and each having their own characteristics. England or Ireland is known for their sweet stouts with low bitterness whereas American stouts are strong and highly roasted, with high malty flavors of dark chocolate or coffee.
Porters – Traditional Porters is another dark beer category with more chocolaty taste than Stouts but have the ingredients of a Stout.
Belgian – Another huge category and is known for having its own pale, dark and sour ales. Much low on bitterness and high on ABV this beer category usually has a fruity or spicy flavor.
Wheat Beers – Light colored beers with low ABV and often characterized by a tangy flavor are the perfect summer afternoon companions.

With this, lemme conclude this blog. Hope you guys have a little clear understanding now about beers. Keep following my adventures for more on Craft and Lager Beers.

Happy Hunting People.. CHEERS!

FLOAT

We have been visiting pubs every weekend now but this time we thought of exploring Micro Breweries. And it’s time for me as well to revamp my oeuvre and emphasize only on the type of beer the breweries or pubs serve and their serving style. This search for micro-breweries took us to Float last weekend.

On Tap:
Belgian Wit [A/V – 5.5%; IBU – 9]
Marzen Munich Lager [A/V – 7.8%; IBU – 16]
Bavarian Hefeweizen [A/V – 5.4%; IBU – 12]
Triple Wit IPA [A/V – 7.5%; IBU – 19]

The Adventure:
Deciding to use the Zomato Gold 2+2 offer on drinks we chose to opt for 2 mugs Marzen Munich Lager first and then 2 mugs of Triple Wit IPA. They opted for a frosted glass as well and we had to ask them to serve in non-frosted glasses. Frosted glass is a foe to craft beer and its high time breweries learn that lesson. It’s not about how good you brew, its mostly about how good it reaches to beer lovers.

Marzen Munich Lager –

[A/V – 7.8%; IBU – 16]

Float boasts that they brew this traditional Dunkel [dark lager] according to the German Purity Law. The Reinheitsgebot is a series of rules that limits the use of ingredients to brew Beer. This Bavarian law came into existence in 1516 and according to this law Barley, Hops and Water were the only three ingredients to be used for producing beer. Yeast became another active ingredient much later in history after its importance was known to men.

This beer in float with an A/V of 7.8% and IBU of 16 was definitely a strong one and had a beautiful aroma of the toasted crusty malts with a pinch of hops. Seemed like a perfect companion for summer evenings which can give you a slight kick as well.

Triple Wit IPA –

[A/V – 7.5%; IBU – 19]

IPA or Indian Pale Ale originated in England and it’s a hoppy style beer which goes up to 7.5% A/V. A double IPA is a step above Standard IPA with more than 7.5% A/V. More amounts of malts and hops make a double IPA into a triple IPA and its bit obvious that this results in higher A/V and IBU. This trending beer style is at the apex of hop bitterness and flavor. The Zach-Approved™ definition of triple IPA puts its A/V well above 9.5% which contradicts to the triple IPA served at FLOAT. With only 7.5%-8% A/V I would probably call it a double IPA and definitely not a Triple IPA.

Beer Nerds believe that a Double IPA should have a minimum IBU of 60 and a triple IPA should comfortably sit with an IPA close to 100, but that’s not the case here as well.

Saying all this, I must admit that so far Float served me the best IPA I ever had. Citrus and Mango mixed aroma with mild hop flavor takes this beer to a whole new level.

See you soon, Team FLOAT!!

Barley & Grapes Cafe

Quite like watching the sequel of a movie after you have watched the prequel, we decided to visit Barley & Grapes after Blyton’s last week. Both have the same ownership and are situated on the Sahakar Nagar Main road like Siamese twins, sharing the same campus. A small yet beautifully decorated place with friendly and courteous staff, this pub attracts quite a nice crowd every evening.

Ambience:
This Quaint, rustic and cozy little pub ideally can be distinguished in two different sets –
An open roof area with huge umbrellas covering the sitting area, a palm tree growing right through the pub and
Another with wooden flooring and set right in front of the bar counter with beautiful overhead lights.

The music is light and lights are dim. Absence of loud music and dance floors makes you feel it to be more of a café than a pub. The crowd here likes this subtleness and keeps the evening calm and going. Just order your drinks and the evening passes by slowly and magically leaving behind empty glasses.

Rainwater Harvesting is the most unique feature of this place, they literally use rainwater and an automated sprinkler to keep the temperature of the place regulated. We decided to sit outside and enjoy the cold breeze while sipping on our beers. Ideal for a little unwind and catch up with your near and dear ones.

The Menu:
Do spend some time going through the left hand side pages of the Carte du jour, believe me, it’s fun. The Menu is basically continental and Italian. Although options are quite less, they do have enough to offer in chicken and poses a good wine selection. Quesadillas are just delectable here. The dainty fries are not something to be missed at all, even the pastas are ambrosial [I won’t recommend the pizzas though].

The beer menu is good and it ranges from King Fisher to Hoegarden with a couple of uncommon names like Asahi, Estrella, and Stella Artois etc…The draught chilled section offered King Fisher and Budweiser and to add the elation in our eyes they also offered Geist.

Being Micro Brew lovers, we wanted to go with Geist and they had two options for us:
Geist Weiss Guy [A/V – 5.3%, IBU – 10]
Geist Stouter Space [A/V – 5.4%, IBU – 29]

The samples

Two micro brews made us think hard and we were in between Scylla and Charybdis. Propitiously our attendant noticed our quandary and got us samples [Shot glasses for Beer – in case you didn’t know] to try and decide – ‘Our knight in the shining armour’. We tried both and a 29 on the IBU was certainly not what we had in mind that day so we went with Weiss Guy.

A/V – 5.3%, IBU – 10

Weiss Guy – The German Hefeweizen. This golden beer goes very well with spicy side dishes and is the perfect concoction for the weekends. The taste of banana and clove in the drink is like an added aromatic supremacy to the froth making it the perfect summer afternoon companion. The quanta this time was simple… The BnG mug, The Bruce three Pitcher, The Five Wire Pitcher, and finally the Antoine’s Pitcher which is basically their way of saying a tower [9 pitchers] plus complimentary French fries. We [me and my friend] decided not to drink a lot and so ordered the Antoine’s Pitcher.

Unfortunately enough they almost served our beer in frosted glass, when we asked them not to, they changed our glasses.
Overall, it was a lovely place and a lovely evening spent. We had a word with the manager in charge just before leaving and shared our views. When he heard that I am a blogger he quickly noted down my Instagram id and the blog link to follow [not sure why I am feeling so proud].

Hasta la vista Barley & Grapes… We’ll meet again.

Blyton’s

It was the very first day of the year 2020 when I and my friend decided to explore a new place in North Bangalore to grab some Beer, knowing very well that there are not many places in this part of the city and of the few places, we chose Blyton’s pub located in the heart of Sahakar Nagar. There was no particular reason of choosing this pub, but I think that’s what you do when you opt to explore, you just walk in.

Blyton’s:

Ambience –
BLAST FROM THE PAST, the phrase that can be rightly used for this place. A place, where all your childhood memories comes back to life. Decorated with gramophone records, newspaper cuttings of Mogambo and Shakaal, old box TVs and huge radios and reel cameras, old coins, comics and articles, every inch of this place give a retro feel. Even the music takes you back a few decades with mind-blowing numbers from Elvis, Bob Marley and the 80-90’s Bollywood era.

The entrance is an au-natural lane with 5-6 tables in a row that ends with a left turn that leads to the lounge and a staircase to access the second floor. The second floor is adorned with portraits of famous celebs of yore; the railing designs giving you a feel of the past, cinematic lights all across and mirror covered lights over every table. It felt like we walked right into a time machine destined to travel to the 1980’s.

Carte du jour –
This is where the magic started. Well the menu does have regular names but you are bound to find a few names here that you have only heard of from your elders or in movies if you have never been to a restaurant specialized in items from the past. It’s eclectic and offers multiple portion sizes which are noteworthy for the solo souls and spinsters. We did try a few fares and loved the 80’s cream of mushroom soup and Prawn Cocktail which were simply moreish. Wish we would have tried a few more provender and desserts but the concoctions awaited. An Abyssmal of Geist Witty Wit is what we ordered – a tower of Belgian style Wit Bier.

A/V – 5%, IBU – 9

Known for the orangy flavor with a dash of coriander the Geist Witty Wit is a light gold lager ideal for the summer afternoons. Not many pubs in Bangalore serves Geist, which makes Blyton’s a definite go to if you love craft beers. Titanic Mug, Aliens Mug, Terminator and the Abyssmal are the four different quanta you can order your beer in.
Although looked mouth-watering, coquettish, the iconic chilled frosted glass they use to serve beer was the only big “NO” for me.
If you are serving macro brewed industrial lagers the concept of a frosted glass holds good perfectly, but for craft beers like Geist, flavor is the main element and a frost mug is its foe. The volatile aroma of crafted beers goes away with frost mugs when served too chilled. Apart from this, there was nothing else that would stop me from visiting this place again.
Well known for its Sunday Flea Markets, Pet Adoption Events and Halloween parties, this pub surely does have a unique appeal. Stepping into the past with simple music and its retro ambiance, it defines the ingenuity and makes you feel to come back every time you visit this place.

Blyton’s, see you soon!
