Beer-out of Lockdown – the Covid19 Story III

Covid19 dealt a heavy blow to mankind. People were out of jobs, businesses were shut, millions dead. But we are like cockroaches, we can survive through anything [well almost anything].

Nation wide lockdown was slowly being lifted and I was ready for some more Beer, something new, something handcrafted to perfection. As the pubs and restaurants started getting back into business, I actively started looking out for something new.

And as they say, when you love something, you definitely get to it.

So typically in a very Bollywood style – “Kehte hain agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaho … to puri kainaat usse tumse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai” Well I got a couple more and am here today to share the same with you all.

The first in my list was Hoegaarden. This trickster of a beer is known as a Belgian Wit Beer but has a mystery added to it.

Hoegaarden is a witbier spiced with coriander and orange peel. It is unfiltered and therefore has a cloudy appearance. Although this beer has too much in it to be called a craft beer but it is definitely not a Macro Lager. This beer is also a bottle conditioned beer, where yeast is added a second time to the brewed product in bottle to get the carbonation. This pre-crafted craft beer comes from a 6th century recipe used by monks. With an A/V of 4.9% this beer is not as smooth as it seems and I would happily rate it a 4 on a scale of 5.

The next in my list was another Belgian Wit Bier… Hopper Wit

Unlike most beers in India this beer has a strange light sweetness to it. It has an extremely smooth and creamy mouth-feel with subtle citrus and well balanced bitterness. This recipe also comes from Belgian monks and has been inspired by the gothic culture, which can be clearly seen when you gaze at its logo or even the shape of the bottle. This wit beer is an ideal summer drink and I would rate it a 4 out of 5 too.
